Thunder Falls Project

Camel Creek Adventure Park is a vibrant and welcoming visitor uniquely interpreting the legends of the area and famous for delivering great adventures and days out for the whole family.

About Camel Creek

The Park is an all-weathers’ attraction and open all year round, with annual activities reflecting the seasons. Located close to the attractive town of Wadebridge, the park sits on the Camel River.

Opened since 1989, the park covers more than 110 acres with rides aimed at younger children up to the age of six. A total of almost 30 different rides include the slides of Raging River, The Morgawr family-friendly rollercoaster, and the swinging pirate ship of Viking Warrior. 
 

The project

In 2020 Camel Creek approached Amusement Technical to provide consultancy and recommendations on relocating the Thunder Falls ride to a different area of the adventure park. The original owners, Creally Park had built the ride on a hillside using the terrain to support the structure.

Amusement Technical recommended that a freestanding structure be built with columns cut to the profile of the hill. This meant the ride would effectively be supported by a steel frame emulating the hillside.

“The ride was effectively picked up and bolted onto the freestanding structure – complete with self-supporting reservoir,” explains Sean Brian, Director, Amusement Technical.

Key features of the solution include:

  • A freestanding modular reservoir with a 3M synthetic liner – this saved the client having to dig a reservoir. 
  • Lightweight modular structure that’s easy to put together – this saved the client a substantial outlay in ground works.
  • The ride is moveable and transportable – thus providing the client with the utmost flexibility to move the ride around the park. 
  • Station structure – Amusement Technical constructed a giant station platform made from steel which incorporated retail outlets into the structure.

The project involved around 50 tonnes of steel, which all had to be galvanised at Amusement Technical’s factory facility. 

“The company’s recent accreditation, EN1090 class 3, was essential to complete a job of this complexity and this gave the client the utmost assurance we were equipped to build a steel structure of this type,” comments Sean Brian.
